WELCOME TO MY BLOG

Come on in. Kick back. Relax. Stay a while.

This blog is dedicated to my adventure in photography. You'll see bits of my adopted hometown, New Orleans, as well as plenty of pictures of my sons, Dylan and Logan, and, of course, the children and families that allow me to capture the special moments in their lives.

I'll be updating the blog frequently, so add me to your blog reader. And if you have a blog yourself, I'd love to be added to your blog roll. Lastly I love comments so if you've particularly enjoyed a post or a photo please let me know!

Sneak Peek: Gavyn [New Orleans Newborn Photographer]

I had quite a few of my newborn clients all give birth at once in May. Phew! Good hing I love those sweet, squishy little newbie babies. And Gavyn was a perfect subject: both beautiful and cooperative. Check out the petite little princess below...

Sneak Peek: Blake [Luling Newborn Photographer]

Back in February I photographed this little guy's parents to celebrate their pregnancy. They were so excited for his arrival and now here he is! A sweet little bundle of blond hair and fair skin, just like his mama.

A year ago today...

my Loganberry arrived in this world and in my life. While I knew I loved him right from the start, I could not have known how much more I would love him as I got to know him and watch him grow.

His ready smile. His deep, deep belly laugh. His determination. His big-brother worship. His mischievous eyes. His scrunched up "happy" face. His love of food. His happy disposition.

All of these things make my baby boy who he is and make me love him all the more for all of his quirks. I can't even imagine how much more I'll love him in another year.

Happy birthday Logan! And many more. I love you.

Sneak Peek: S Family [New Orleans Family Photographer]

The S family contacted me on the occasion of their youngest daughter's high scool graduation. With six children and five grandchildren spread across the country, I gather that the times that everyone is together in the same place are few and far between. But the family had come together the graduation and the S faily seized the opportunity to capture some family togetherness.

Sneak Peek: Garrison Family [New Orleans Family Photographer]

Lanie and her three lovely daughters came in all the way from Colorado on Mother's Day weekend. Wanting to capitalize on having her daughters, her parents and her grandparents all together in the same place, Lanie contacted me to capture some family portraits. Having just lost my own grandmother - and being so grateful that we took family portraits at Thanksgiving when she was still with us and we had my whole family together as well - I could very much relate to Lanie's desire to capture her loved ones together.

Lanie - I hope you enjoy the sneak peek!

Sneak Peek: Lila [New Orleans Baby Photographer]

I spent last Sunday with lovely miss Lila. Lila was referred to me by her good friend, Juliet. Our plans for the park got rained out, but we took some beautiful pictures around Lila's home and yard and the best part is, Lila is on one of my baby plans so we'll have plenty of time for the park at her next session!

How cool is this - the background behind Lila here ia actually a painting by her great-aunt. I just loved the bright, vibrant colors of it! And it looks amazing with Lila's beautiful blue eyes.

A perfect evening...

It's funny how things change. When I was in my 20s, if you had asked me to describe a perfect evening it likely would have included a hot date or perhaps a night of drinking and dancing with my girlfriends. But now in my 30s, it's something else entirely.

Tonight after dinner I was in Dylan's room with him. I forget why. Perhaps I had just changed his diaper. Or perhaps I was picking up the dozens of toys off of his floor. But he suddenly grabbed my hand and said, "Sit Mimi. I wanna play."

So I obediently sat on the floor and asked him what he wanted to play. He grabbed a bag of foam block and immediately dumped them out in front of us. So Dylan and I had fun building some foam block towers and laughing when they inevitably got so high that they toplled over. Even Logan was in on the action, happily munching on the blocks and crawling around with them in his mouth like a dog with a bone.

Then Dylan went and got Kevin from the front room. "Daddy, you do it!" Kevin was a bit confused as to what exactly he was supposed to do, but he followed Dylan obediently as well. So as a family we built more foam block towers. Then somehow the building of towers degenerated into Dylan knoocking down towers and strewning the blocks around. And then somehow that even further degenerated into an all out foam block war between Kevin and I with Dylan delightedly in the middle.

And as we all sat around laughing and acting silly, I was struck by how perfect it all really was. Our kids were happy and we were all having fun. Kevin's eyes caught mine and I know he was thinking it too.

I don't have any pictures to add to this post, but that's okay. Sometimes it's more important to live the moments than to capture them.

Better late than never right?

As anyone who follows this blog has seen, I had a busy and stressful April. One that encompassed two trips, a wedding, and very sadly, the death of my grandmother. I'm finally mostly caught back up now and I suddenly realized one more thing that I had forgotten - my April Harrison Avenue Marketplace drawing for a free session! Since I clearly want to do that drawing before the May marketplace next week, I grabbed the bowl from my office table this morning - where it has sat neglected and untouched for the past few weeks - and grabbed Dylan for the big moment. He was actually even cooperative this morning. :)

So without further ado, the winner of the free session is...

PAM MITCHELL!

Pam - keep an eye on your email. I'll be in touch very soon.

Sneak Peek: J+B [New Orleans Maternity Photographer]

It seems like I've been deluged with sessions with beautiful moms-to-be lately, but J+B's session stands out to me. Not because they're a gorgeous couple (although they are!). And not because we had a fantastic day in the Quarter for the session (although we did!). But because it's not often that a get the inquiry from the dad-to-be looking to do something sweet, special and unexpected like this for his wife. (Men out there - take note!)

J+B - I hope you enjoy your sneak peek. And I can't wait to meet your little one! By the way - Have I mentioned how much I love newborn shots with dad - especially when the dad has some nice colorful tats? I'm just sayin'.... :)

Sneak Peek: Jonathon [New Orleans Baby Photographer]

Jonathon is a nine month old on the GO! He wasn't interested in sitting for pictures (can you blame him?) so we did lots of clapping, crawling, standing, and jumping. And in between all of that activity we managed to capture a few quiet moments as well.
